Vacaville police canine shot whereas apprehending suspect

(KRON) — A Vacaville Police Division K9 canine was shot whereas apprehending a suspect on Wednesday, VPD mentioned. The canine was shot in a limb and is predicted to outlive.

Police responded to a house on the 300 block of Regency Circle after the suspect known as 911 and threatened to shoot others. He had additionally threatened to hurt himself, and he declined all help and sources provided to him, police mentioned.

At about 1:30 p.m., officers arrived on the residence and tried to get the suspect to come back out. The person got here outdoors holding a rifle and refused to give up, VPD mentioned.

The canine, named “Murph,” tried to take the suspect into custody, and the suspect fired a spherical, taking pictures Murph. The suspect was finally taken into custody and recognized as Darren Crail, 52, of Vacaville.

Crail suffered minor accidents and was hospitalized. He was charged with harming a police canine, negligent discharge of a firearm, unlawful possession of an assault weapon, prison threats and resisting arrest.

Murph has been a member of the police division for greater than three years.
